While smartphone functionality has greatly increased over recent years, the desire for larger screens have also rendered many devices too bulky and inconvenient to hold or carry. To tackle these growing concerns, Chinese tech company OPPO has teamed up with Japanese design studio nendo to create a new concept smartphone featuring numerous segments that can fold and open depending on your desired usage.
Unveiled at the 4th China International Industrial Design Expo, the concept device utilizes what the two companies call a “slide-phone” design, which actually combines three folding screens into one larger platform. Different functions appear as you open each segment, increasing screen size for more usability. the first segment opens up the clock and displays your notifications, while the second segment expands into a selfie mode. The third segment then extends the entirety of the screen out and allows you to make full use of your device, whether it’s watching Netflix or running mobile games.
On top the the concept phone, OPPO and nendo also collaborated on a collection of audio devices dubbed “music-link,” which centers around a pair of true wireless earphones, including a smartwatch, a smart speaker, a portable charger and a wireless charger. The designs take inspiration from sleek organic forms, and combine together for a “seamless music experience.”
Elsewhere in tech, Tencent is now hiring a “Pokémon Consultant.”
